Biomass based Power Plants

The possibility of generating power from practically any waste material is definitely a very attractive proposition. With policies like CDM being talked of more frequently than ever, biomass based plants are certainly an option for the future.

Thermax has executed and  commissioned the first ever biomass based IPP set, under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, India. The Kalpatru plant is a 7.8 MW IPP with fuels as diverse as mustard husk, mustard straw, and cotton stalk among others. This is the first biomass based project from India to be successfully registered with UNFCCC as a CDM project.

Thermax's long involvement in the Energy business has led to a very deep understanding of fuels. In fact our R&D labs have successfully tested & commercialized firing of more than 40 bio waste and bio fuels like rice husk, agro waste and municipal waste.
